Rye Playland Posts Big Attendance + Revenue Gains in 2014

I guess you could call Rye Playland the little park that could, posting significant increases in both attendance and revenues amid uncertainty as to the future direction of the park.

The historic amusement park saw an increase of 77,000 visitors in 2014 for a grand total of 467,000 - a 20% increase over 2013.  Revenues swelled as well, up to $8.7 million from $7.0 million in 2013, a 24% jump.

This article from Patch reports that the County's Department of Parks & Recreation "attributed the 2014 increases in attendance and gross revenue at Playland to successful promotions, pleasant weather and special events."  The article also points out that these big gains were achieved even with poor weather over the July 4th weekend, which is usually the best of the year for Playland.

The County is currently awaiting a report from a hired consultant that is meant to point the park in a direction that will make it profitable in the long run.  Talks have also resumed with two operators who previously showed interested in taking over the park and expanding it heavily.  Hopefully those talks are quickened, so as to build on this year's gains going forward!
