ZooAmerica Celebrates 100 Years

A 100th anniversary is certainly something to celebrate, and Hershey Park's ZooAmerica is doing just that.

Some 100 years ago the park opened as the Hershey Zoo, where guests could see a selection of critters, from large black bears to beautiful peacocks. The popularity of the park both grew and waned over the decades, and it actually was closed for several years in the mid-1970s.

It was in 1978 when the park reopened as ZooAmerica that it featured a specific set of exhibits featuring animals native to North America. As Hershey Park grew, so did the Zoo. In 1982 ZooAmerica became accredited with the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, firmly cementing its status as a premier animal facility.

For more history of ZooAmerica, check out their webpage here. I always enjoy taking a walk around the park when visiting Hershey. Oh, and here's to another 100 years!
