Entertainment, Quassy Style

Like many of you, I tend to focus solely on rides when I visit parks. Any other forms of diversion that may have been concocted for my visual or entertainment pleasure tend to get lost in the shuffle. But every now and then (and almost always from the seclusion of my office), I take a step back to really look at what the various parks are offering. And then the realization strikes me: "Hey... In the absence of roller coasters, that would be wicked cool!!"

Such was my reaction as I reviewed the many free shows offered at Quassy Amusement Park this summer. By the time the season is through, Quassy will have welcomed three different performing troupes to its Vacation Village Resorts Lakeside Theatre stage. And folks, these acts definitely qualify as wicked cool. Let's check them out!

Look closely: Those are stacked chairs!!

Cirque Equinox performed at Quassy from July 20 - August 2, to the delight of the crowds. This troupe is comprised of members of the Nock family, who perform various circus and acrobatic acts. The chair balancing routine pictured above is one of their trademarks; it has been featured in their show for 200 years!

The Kent Family Magic Circus took over the stage on August 3 and will continue performing through August 16. The troupe consists of Victor Kent and six of his children, ranging in age from 3 to 19. [Three? Really?!] Their current production, which is billed as a "magical, Vaudeville, variety, circus-like show", features magic, juggling and illusions among other things.

How low can he go?! Boy it hurts my knees just looking at that...

And finally, returning to Quassy for the third consecutive summer are the Kenya Safari Acrobats. Jacob and Karen Kalama, daughter Krystina, and the rest of their troupe of talented athletes never disappoint with their "incredible feats of strength and agility". Their performance blends native culture with human pyramids, fire eating, and various other stunts. Rumor has it you may even learn a little Swahili! The Kenya Safari Acrobats will be at Quassy August 17-30.

If you haven't had an opportunity to catch one of these acts--well, in action--yet, what are you waiting for? We've still got a few good weeks of summer left, and time is a-wastin'! For the most up-to-date information on show dates and times, check Quassy's web site.
